Gas stoves
Also: gas stove, gas cooker, gas hob, gas range, gas cooking
A cooking appliance burning natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas at an open flame inside the room. Unlike a boiler, it has no flue: everything the flame produces, and anything the fitting leaks, enters the kitchen directly.
“Indoor particle number concentrations were >1000× higher than background levels during the operation of the stove and hot plate (with no food or pans).”
Where it comes from indoors
A gas burner is the one combustion appliance most homes operate without a flue, and that single fact is what puts it in this vocabulary. The flame heats air to a temperature at which nitrogen and oxygen combine, so nitrogen dioxide is produced by the flame itself and rises in the kitchen whenever the hob is on, in quantities that depend on the number of burners, the time they burn and whether anything extracts the air.
Two further emissions are separable from the flame. Incomplete combustion at a dirty or badly adjusted burner adds carbon monoxide. And the gas supply itself contains trace components — benzene among them in some networks — which enter the room from fittings and from the moments before ignition, unburnt.
What the food does is a separate source again, recorded under cooking.

Each row is one Finding — a sentence as printed in one study, recorded with its page in the Coridum Knowledge Base. Follow the Finding number for the exact wording and the citation. Checked says who verified the row: machine means every automatic check passed and the surrounding text was read; person means someone read the sentence in the document. Rows are re-checked by a person over time. The studies are curated in the Coridum Knowledge Base; the reading of them together is a Claim, shown separately.
